TRNK presents Resistance :: Resilience - an exhibition of contemporary Black protest art that celebrates the strength, triumph, and beauty of Black identity and activism. A portion of proceeds with be donated to The Black Youth Project.
From the seminal photojournalism of Gordon Parks to Amy Sherald’s recent portrait of the late Breonna Taylor, contextualizing the history of Black art as activism offers a paradoxically sobering, yet arousing reaction to our current state. This exhibition communicates not one truth about Black identity, but confronts the multiplicity intrinsic to centuries of resistance — and as importantly, the resilience that furthers our unfettered pursuit of self-actualization and equality.
25% of the proceeds from Resistance :: Resilience will donated to the Black Youth Project - a member-based organization, elected by the participating artists, of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people.
This photo is titled "Death Before Dishonor" by Myesha Evon Gardner. "One of my biggest accomplishments this year was reuniting with my long distance sister who I hadn’t seen in four years. She was incarcerated for one year of our time apart for a crime she was wrongfully accused of.During my visit, I met two of my nieces for the first time and photographed them all. She has overcome so much and I've committed to document her progression, love, and intimacy." - Myesha Evon GardnerMedium: Moab Lasal Photo
