Rather than presenting queerness as a cultural homology, these images take authorship over individual lived experience while acknowledging contributions to a representative body politic. Expressly, by bringing these diverse works in conversation with one another, this show makes legible the inherent tension between community and self.
Each work is presented as a limited-edition, 20"x30" poster ($75 Unframed, $250 Framed). 100% of proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Ali Forney Center to combat LGBTQ youth homelessness in NYC.

This poster is derived from a photo titled 'Frederick on Lake Pontchartrain' by Derrick Woods-Morrow.
Through a process of renewal, Derrick Woods-Morrow envisions ‘place-making’, ‘playfulness’ & ‘experimentation’ as necessary forms of activism for trans, gender non conforming & queer bodies of color. His recent work explores an array of historical narratives from the American Coastal South, celebrating, and archiving interactions between bodies in motion, their gendered forms & their connection to the racialized southern terrain. Through fluidly choreographed movement queer folx engage with Woods-Morrow’s personal narratives, imbuing the moments captured in his photographs with questions of shared existence, commonality, cultural vernaculars for identifying oneself as part of a community. These images parallel concerns Woods-Morrow has about racial and sexual identity as a performance - placing on a fulcrum the intricate expectations of the self, of adulthood desire, and of childhood play. In his work physical bodies ‘inhabit’ a fictive America, developing methods for experiencing his new American ideal of intimacy – a type of seeing that challenges pre- programmed structures concerning ‘race’ & ‘identity; the laborious & restful in-action; the landscapes of inner desires juxtaposed against the physical and emotional terrains that our bodies frequently inhabit.
Derrick Woods-Morrow received his MFA in Photography from the School of Art Institute of Chicago in 2016. Most recently, he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Photography and teaching artist at the University of Illinois Chicago. His work has exhibited at the 2019 Whitney Biennial in collaboration with Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among others. In Winter of 2019, his second short film 'much handled things are always soft' debuted in collaboration with the VISUAL AIDS 30th Annual Day With(out) ART programming at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Contemporary Art LA, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Brooklyn Museum, The New Museum, and more than one hundred other institutions worldwide.
