Robert Dudley Best
Robert Dudley Best (1892-1984) is considered a pioneer of British modernism. An heir to the world's largest lighting factory, he felt that the designs of the company were outdated. In response, he pursued design studies in Paris and Düsseldorf, where he befriended Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus School in Germany. Today, Best's works can be enjoyed at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London. He can also boast Winston Churchill as one of his many enthusiasts.
