𝗠𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗗 presents 4 emerging artists whose culturally specific mediums connect art and design.From ceramics to assemblage to textiles, Ambrose Rhapsody Murray, Hamzat Raheem, Maya Beverly, and Yves Craft shed light on the craft techniques practiced by Black people since, well, forever. In turn, these artists abandon definitions set by the art market and embrace the traditions set by our people.

Hamzat's work presented in MOLDED features his face, the faces of his Mother, Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jackson and that of Paloma Elsesser. He started with his family, and has since expanded into a growing network of 68 participants. He started removing noses in a moment of sculptural whimsy and clarity, never curating a particular notion of face, but rather investing in serendipitous alignments of trust, curiosity, and schedule.

“Abel” became the regret previous to “Cain”s hatred. A feeling of confusion and guilt for directing that negativity towards loved ones in the first place.

Named after the color 'Aegean Blue', 'Aegean Watchtower' is a nod to the history of protection and guardian objects and figures. The glossy surface and the button-like protrusions invoke something of both the past and present.

Yves Craft (@999yves) is a self taught artist from Richmond, VA who often combines painting and textiles to focus on familial, romantic and platonic relationships, and how those complex concepts shape our own perceptions of self.
Maya Beverly (@mayabeverly_) is a multidisciplinary artist from Macon, GA whose practice is currently centered around sculpture and ceramics that examine the intersections between identity, technology, and bodily autonomy.
Hamzat Raheem (@hamzat.raheem) is a Nigerian born sculptor living in Massachusetts. Fueled by a 'stone grindset,' he is committed to collecting 1,000 faces and dispelling the rumor that stone carving is an ancient art.
Ambrose Rhapsody Murray (@01.ambrose) is a self taught artist born in Jacksonville, FL and raised in Asheville, NC Through sewing, painting, material experimentation, film and collaborative projects, they create stories to investigate our relationships to the colonial undercurrents of our lives, the charged symbology of black feminine bodies, and the ephemeral and layered qualities of memory and remembering.
