Chainmail Droplet Single Pendant

A chainmail web hugs the lamp’s canopy, as the knit gets tighter the chainmail envelopes into a rope that hangs to finally suspend a glass globe. All the while the lamp’s warm light source remains hidden. In Chainmail Droplet Chandelier there is an evident contradiction between material and form as the chainmail takes on an organic cocoon-like appearance.

"When conceiving the first piece in this collection; I sought to create a design that supported the idea of a body that is open to different forms of expression; ultimately seeking to express and question our wish for constraint.

I found chainmail well represented by Felix Guattari’s concept of a body without organs. A very simple machine that is versatile and malleable, but made out of a system of independently rigid and unyielding parts; a series of hand linked rings coming together to form a strong and flexible mesh that drapes like a textile."

A material charged with meaning, which embodies grandeur and victory, but also violence. Originally used for armor but now also remitted to jewelry, perforations, restraint, bondage, and discipline. The result of an old craft that somehow looks industrial and modern.

"For this pendant, I intended to create an object that through industrial materials knitted into a soft light nest."
